County Badminton Report

The county second string put in a very good all round team performance to beat Worcestershire 8-7 in the latest round of Inter County Regional Championship matches. Norfolk won three of the opening four singles matches, with Serena Verney, Lucy Curran and Mike Philpott coming out on top in their games. Then all eight of the level doubles were shared, with Philpott and Paul Daynes, Chris Piff and Luke Cox, Curran and Katie Ruthen and Verney and Michelle Dungar all contributing to Norfolk's lead going into the final three mixed doubles games. Philpott and Dungar and Daynes and Ruthen narrowly lost their matches in three sets. But then Cox and Verney clinched the match for Norfolk in a three set, hard fought thriller, 18-21, 21-12, 27-25, which puts them in second place behind the division's run-away leaders, Staffordshire.

* The county Under 15 team had an excellent Shires League victory over Northamptonshire by 12 games to 8, with 6 of the 20 games going to three sets.
The opening mixed doubles were shared two games apiece, but three of the boys singles went to Northants. Norfolk's girls fought back, winning three of their four matches to level the score six all. Six of the level doubles then went Norfolk's way to give them their well-deserved victory. Norfolk were represented by Dominic Ely, Ben Page,Ben Sharman, Tom Boardman, Jacob Trend, Katherine Adamson, Georgia Moyes, Lauren Mortimer and Kate Sawyer.
