Badminton Bonanza!

The Yehlex Badminton Bonanza, first launched at the NIA, Birmingham a few years ago, is gaining in popularity and is coming to the recently opened Fakenham Sports and Fitness Centre on Sunday, February 26th. The tournament is aimed mainly at social players who play for fun but would like a chance to play competitively against other social players, but also at league players, not of county standard, looking for increased competition.

On this occasion only mixed doubles will be played, but if successful, level doubles could be added in the future. There will be seperate events for social and league players. The entry fee is £3.00 for BADMINTON England members and £4.00 for non-affiliated players. Entry forms can be downloaded from the BADMINTON England website or obtained from Rachel Forrest at Fakenham on 01328 850 010. Closing date for entries is February 5th.

* A squad of six girls and boys entered the Under 12s Team Tournament played at Brandon against teams from Suffolk, Herts and Essex. Although the match scores were not in Norfolks favour, the attitude and determination of the players were excellent, with every member winning at least one game.

* The Over 50s lost a hard fought Veterans League match against Leicestershire 3-9.

Norfolks victories came from Bob Tooby and Bob Henderson and Ann Hutchin and Linda Foster in the level doubles and Henderson and Hutchin in the mixed. Other members of the team were Bob Collinson, Peter Astle,Carol Longland and Joy Eaglin.
