U18 Junior Championships Report

The U18 Junior Championships took place at Dereham Leisure Centre on 6 th November. The day started with the singles events with 12 boys and 8 girls competing for their respective titles.

In the boys there was 1 semi final between Daniel Hughes and Bradley Smith. Hughes took the first set however Smith fought back and took the deciding set 15-11. Joe Rolfe the number 1 seed won his box and then headed straight to the final to play Smith. Rolfe took the lead before Smith fought back however Rolfe’s strength and experience helped him secure the title.

The ladies singles was played out in 2 boxes leading to a straight final with top seed Amy Hayhoe toppling second seed Jess Bateman in two sets.

Both the boys and girls doubles were played out within one group. Rolfe and Smith comfortably topped the group with Hughes and Charlie Wakefield battling it out with Liam Bond and Billy Wright for second place. A tough 3 set game was played out with Hughes and Wakefield edging the 3 rd set to take the runners-up spot.

In the girls doubles the 4 top U18 girls battled it out for the trophy with Bateman and Caitlin Parfitt working the play to take the title in the 3 rd set against Hayhoe and Rachel Copley.

The mixed was the final event of the day with 5 pairings vying for the title. The two most experienced players of Rolfe and Hayhoe topped the box with Smith and Bateman having to settle for silver.
