Luke wins Ipswich Gold

Norfolk County Junior, Luke Cox, won the boys singles title at the Badminton England Suffolk Under 17s Challenger Tournament, held in Ipswich. After overcoming fellow county player, Mark Robinson in the quarter-finals and Ryan Carrick from Buckinghamshire in the semis, he led all the way to beat Victor Chiew (Essex) 21-16 in the final to win the gold medal.

More medals came Norfolks way when Holly Bowen and Serena Verney beat opposition from Sussex, Essex and Middlesex to reach the semi-finals of the girls doubles, but they had to settle for bronze after losing out to the Kent/Essex partnership of Beth Hunter and Natasha Warren in a tight match 23-21.

In the final event of the day Adam Stubbing teamed up with his Suffolk partner, Dan Farrow from Lowestoft to reach the final of the boys doubles against regular adversary, Victor Chiew and his partner Zan Bhatti from Kent. But the Norfolk team were not at their best after a long day, losing 21-16 to pick up the silver medals.
